Eating better and losing weight has a lot to do with what you put into your body. But it also has to do with your emotions and state of mind when you are eating. In fact, your level of relaxation when you are eating may be one of the biggest contributors to whether or not you have food cravings and are able to lose weight at all.

Relaxation and meditation have two important roles when it comes to curbing cravings. The first is biological. Recent studies have shown that there is a strong link between nutrient absorption and your stress levels while you are eating.

For decades leading diet doctors have tried to figure out why people in other countries like France and Italy can eat seemingly "bad" foods and still stay thin. It turns out that your emotional state can effect how your body absorbs nutrients. Eating in a relaxed, enjoyable environment allows you to get what you need out of your food.

One of the major reasons you experience cravings is because your body isn't properly using the nutrients that it is receiving. If eating in front of the tv, eating while you're stressed or eating quickly means that you'll have more cravings, shouldn't you take steps to slow down and relax while you're eating?

Eating in a more relaxed manner may take some getting used to, but the results will be well worth it. By incorporating relaxation and even a bit of meditation, you'll be able to use your food more efficiently and reduce your cravings. You can start by having real "sit down" meals. When you take the time to relax while you are eating, you'll be able to really enjoy your food and digest it as well.

When you eat a meal or a snack, make sure to take your time and relax. Enjoy your meal as you are eating it, and don't rush through the process. Remaining relaxed through the meal is very important to digestion. If you eat on the run or when you're feeling sad, angry or stressed, you'll end up having food cravings shortly afterwards.

Relaxation can also have an effect on your ability to deal with cravings as well. Often times, cravings are just a result of being bored or being stressed out. You can use meditation and other relaxation techniques to help you curb cravings.

If you've never meditated before it may seem intimidating. Really it's nothing more than just sitting in a quiet spot and focusing your attention on something fixed. Some people try to think of one word like "peace," and others try to clear their mind entirely. It's up to you to find what's most pleasing and relaxing for you. The point is to find a method that helps you get your mind off of food and on to what is really important, your relaxation.

Meditation, no matter what form it takes, is a terrific substitute for succumbing to cravings. Any steps you take toward relaxation will help you reduce your cravings and fulfill your weight loss or eating better plans.

Relaxing Meditation - Key to wholeness and well-being

If you have ever wondered about the key to wholeness and well-being in life, it means that you have been contemplating how to open its door. The key to this door is Relaxing Meditation. This term is a beautiful way to describe paying attention to yourself and to your world. Whenever you are engrossed in any activity such as running or reading -  you are in fact meditating and relaxing simultaneously!

Though it sounds pretty simple, it is not easy for many of us. This is because the mind has a tendency to wander about and it is easily distracted by the external surroundings. In addition, our busy schedule grips us so tightly to the rapid momentum of the day that we just cannot halt to enjoy the full grandeur of the world that we live in. However, there is a way to pause and the key lies in meditation.

This key awakens us by unlocking the doors to our wholeness and well-being. It enables us to abide in the eternal now, let go of external distractions and cast away thoughts of anxiety about the future and our tendency to be over-critical of ourselves and others. In other words, it opens us to a state of awareness where we begin to appreciate life.

Besides, meditation has numerous impacts on our daily life as well. As we pick up skills to focus, wonderful things begin to take place in our lives. We start to have greater clarity in our thoughts and actions. Our minds and bodies will experience a greater sense of well being while tension and worry start to fade away.

Truthfully speaking, there is no absolute right or wrong in relaxing meditation. It is a very personal activity and it can adopt many forms. Many things that you may associate with meditation such as breathing and sitting, chanting mantras and candle lighting are all techniques to aid you on your road to meditation but they are not the essence of relaxing meditation. The serene state of mind and body and the state of being in the present moment is meditating. In fact, the only tool you ever need to meditate is the mind.

Moreover, to begin relaxing meditation, it is always better to explore several techniques and select one that best suits you. This means that you have to take time to search for the meditation technique that is in harmony with you. Hence, enter the laboratory of meditation, see what feels good with you and adhere to that form of practice regularly. Lastly, take the whole journey of self-discovery easy and have fun!

why relaxation is necessary before meditation if some says that to relax one should meditate?

Well, if you can't relax right before or as soon as you plop down on your meditation cushion, then focusing on something, such as watching the breath (what it feels like and how it goes in and out w/o forcing it and judging it) can help you relax.

The mind can be a bouncing ball bouncing from one spot to another, but focus on an object without being judgemental about thoughts that come to mind, you simply say "thinking" or "distraction" and go right back to the breath.

It's cool... if you can hold that thought, you'll eventually interrupt yourself for the first time when you notice that your breath and heart rate has dropped to a more relaxed state. Then you have to let that fact go and not cling to IT and back to the breath. LOL Meditation's great stuff.
