Silk Mens PJs are the Perfect Gift for a Man
Mens pjs may not be one of the gifts that come to mind as the ideal or perfect gift for a man, but they should. It is a gift that offers comfort, consideration, and quite often, warmth and affection to the recipient of the gift.
Some of the most popular, and in fact, the most stylish gifts are pajama and robe sets for men. Mens pajamas have come a long way from the boring and bland flannel gifts that they once were. Pajamas are bedtime wear, so how stylish do they really have to be? Does the choice of fabric really matter? The answer to that question might just surprise you.
Men's cotton pajamas bring a level of comfort and warmth, depending on how the cotton is woven. They can be selected to offer something that is cool and comfortable for the gentleman to wear in a hot summer atmosphere, or the same fabric might be used to help him cozy up in a windy or cold climate. You can also find men's cotton pajamas in the drawstring variety, reminiscent of surgical scrubs. These are more casual and relaxed, and could double as lounge pants, offering a great way to chill out after a shower or swimming.
Cotton is a great fabric and is perfect for thousands of uses but for mens pajamas they aren't at the top of the pajama food chain.
Another fabric that is highly popular for mens pjs these days is silk. Silken clothing has a feel of luxury and wealth that women have always loved, but men are getting on board in big numbers too.
You can get many different textures of silk depending on how it is woven. Mens silk pajamas offer a very light feel to them and men love that texture and comfort in a big way. Silk wasn't always a fabric that was known as a ladies selection. Men have worn silk throughout the ages. Middle Eastern sheiks knew the light texture kept the skin cool in the sand and heat, while royalty saw silk as an extravagance that they richly deserved.
Mens silk pajamas have always been viewed as a luxury, however recent changes in manufacturing processes and in import and export have made silk a luxury that is virtually affordable for everyone. Mens garments such as mens silk pajamas are far more readily found and more affordable than ever before.
Surprisingly, mens silk pajamas aren't just a luxury that feels good to the gentleman in question. They are a luxury that can actually affect the quality of rest and sleep. Research has shown that what you wear to sleep can actually help to assure that you get a more sound and restful sleep.
According to Max Hirshkowitz, who is the director of the Sleep Disorders Research Center in Houston, the quality of your sleep is affected by what you wear to sleep. Hirshkowitz says that silk is one fabric that is hard to replace for sleeping. His comments are that silk mens pjs (or womens) keeps you far warmer in the wintertime and far cooler in the summer months. In addition, they don't harbor dust mites such as other fabrics may do. They move with the body and slide as you move in your sleep, meaning that you get more rest when you are dressed for bed in silk.
If there were ever a better reason for pampering yourself just a little, we can't find it. A new bedtime wardrobe may actually help you to get more rest and feel better when you wake which is something you might want to keep in mind if you have trouble sleeping occasionally.
A more restful night's sleep can be had simply by virtue of what you're wearing to bed. Silk mens pjs seem like a necessity now, don't they?

College guys in pajamas vs. other sleepwear?
I was looking at some old pictures from the 50's and 60's of college men lounging in their dorm common rooms and noticed a few where all these gents were wearing pajamas and robes. I'm a freshman in college and none of the men on my floor wear pajamas. I sleep naked, as does my roommate, and I assume some of our floormates do too, and others sleep in boxers. When did it become popular for college men to sleep naked or in boxers instead of PJ's?
Yeah, I think they're definitely not "cool"--just the opposite: warm! As in they make me too warm to sleep, which is why I quit wearing them years ago!
Don't know for certain, but I'd say the trend began in the 60's and was full blown by the 70's. I began sleeping in the buff when I was 15, which was well before college. My college roommate (only had one for one year) slept in shorts and a t-shirt -- but I slept in the buff. I think he thought it was a bit weird, but I didn't care. I wasn't going to let another guy's thoughts keep me from being comfortable. It wasn't like I was parading around for all to see. I was just being comfortable. Out of college now, and have had to travel for business a couple of times and share a room with a co-worker (guy, and yes, separate beds). Slept in the buff then, too. That's just what I prefer!
Barber to kick back, on the road
DRC/Barron Ludlum Jim Griffin, 63, is retiring from his barbershop on East Hickory Street just off the Square. He recently closed Griffin Quality Haircutting and plans to spend more time with his bike. The term "biker barber" comes to mind, but Jim Griffin prefers to be called a motorcycle enthusiast who cuts hair. For 37 years, he's pampered the heads of Denton's elite and ordinary alike, and he ...
