Here are some more information for Old Wooden:

It's easy to build your own window shutters if you want a rustic look for your house. Not too long ago I was looking to build shutters for my home and was trying to figure out what materials to use. At the same time I also had a fence in my backyard that was older and wooden and needed to be replaced. The idea came to me after reading something online how about using the old wood from the wooden fence to create and build shutters for my home. It was just as simple as that.
So if you have some old wooden fencing or you have access to some old wood boards maybe from an old barn, take a look at the material and see if it's in good enough shape to use for your wooden shutters. It might be that a lot of the wood needs to be replaced or not used, but you can use the wood that's still in pretty good shape. Of course it may need to be repainted and nails and screws taken out, but all those flaws will give your wooden shutters a rustic look. I even have a good friend of mine who treats the wood with stain and marks them up with different tools to make them appear old.
So after you have your building materials for your shutters, it would be wise to find some plans either online or at the library to follow in order to build your shutters. What I did was just lay three or four boards down on a flat surface and nail a board behind them to keep them straight and in-line. So if you're boards aren't too wide you could just do the very same thing. Put three boards on the ground and nail or screw a backboard on the backside. Of course you'll want to have a board that is both at the top and at the bottom and possibly in the middle in order to support the shutters.
Finally, after your shutters are built you'll need to figure out how to place them onto your home and around your windows. You will need some screws and some hinges in order to attach them to your home. They hinges all of the necessary if you plan to open and shut the shutters. My recommendation is that if you are going to build shutters you might as well build shutters that are functional and now opening close as you need them. Of course this only applies to certain areas where the weather can be harsh or severe.

Floor Sanding – Transforming An Old Wood Floor
One of the most satisfying DIY jobs within the home is lovingly sanding down an old wooden floor and transforming it into a beautiful new surface. It is not recommended to carry out floor sanding under your own steam on a parquet floor as these require specialist sanding machines and should not be attempted by the complete novice.
Time should be taken to ensure that the correct equipment is hired; your local floor sander hire centre should be able to offer advice. Remember that pine floors no matter how flat they seem will invariably dip in the middle of each board. If the wrong equipment is used you will most likely end up with an uneven result after all your efforts.
To carry out the task of sanding a wooden floor you will require a large sander for the main area, a specialised edge sander for any edges as well as any stairs. The sanders are extremely powerful and they need to be to achieve the right results. When using the sander, keep it moving to get a nice even finish and remember not to leave the sander in the same place for too long, even one extra second and the sander will eat the floor. It is always better to sand with the direction of the grain rather than going against it. When approaching the end of the room it is important not to panic, simply turn the sander around and head in the opposite direction, you can stop at any time and you must not let the sander run away with you.
There might be gaps between the floorboards that you would rather not see; if this is the case it is possible to fill the gaps. This can be a time consuming project and it should be remembered that when the floor is stained or varnished the filled gaps will appear a different colour than the floorboards.
Once the main area of the floor has been taken down to new wood, there will be some marks remaining due to undulations in the wood but these can easily be removed with the use of the edge sander. Then use the edge sander to sand the areas of the floor close to the skirting board, with this done it is time to change the grade of the paper and repeat the process. The point of changing the grade of paper used is to remove the scratches caused by removing the top layers of wood. The local sander hire centre should be able to advice you on which grade of paper to use for each stage. It may be necessary to carry out the process several times; changing the grade of the paper used each time, to achieve the smooth finish desired.
When completely satisfied Hoover the floor and repeat after several hours to guarantee that you have removed all the dust. It is well worth hiring an up to date sanding machine purely on the grounds of how much dust is created by using old sanders. Then wipe the floor surface with white spirit on a rag and allow it to evaporate for several hours. Cleaning the floor in this fashion will degrease it and prepare the surface for staining or varnishing.

What is the best way to clean old wooden cupboard doors?
Hi there,
my husband and I recently moved into a rental property that needs a little TLC to get to a point where we're comfortable with it. The kitchen is rather old and bears cupboards of some 3 decades ago. These old wooden cupboards have boarders around the outside of them, and along the bottom looks as though they have caught stains, food and dirt for years. How do I remove this gunk and grime effectively?
Thanks for your insight~
Get you some lemons (u could use the lemon peels as a rag to put the mixture on the wood) or vinegar and baking soda........mix n2 a paste......put on the wood doors......let it set them wash them with some warm water.......you may have to repeat the process since they have been there for 3 decades, however it's effective, environmentally friends, inexpensive and it works.........good luck~~
Wooden boat museum sails forward
In the age of fiberglass hulls and outboard motors, of flashy paint and electronic depth-finders, remnants of Louisiana's wooden-boat building tradition remain showcased in a nearly century-old building.
