The 17th Century Japanese miniature carvings known as Netsuke was at first only a small one inch in size necessity for fastening closed the personal belongings of the Japanese men and women. The traditional Japanese women's clothing would have wide enough long sleeved arms within their cloths that they could hold their personal belongings rolled up safely in side the clothing arms to be carried around. But for the Japanese men's Kimonos, there had to be a different method for carrying personal belongings throughout the day.

Since the original Japanese Kimonos for men did not have any form of pockets to hold such personal belongings as money seals, tobaccos, pipes, herbal medicines, and so fourth, the men would tie around beautifully decorated wooden or woven baskets or carrying cases to their sash or obi. These would be the way for them to have their personal needed necessities upon their bodies throughout the day.

To securely hold their personal belongings inside the woven baskets or cases, there would be the need for a cinching device upon the string that would be drawn closed so nothing could be lost. This very important cinching device is what is known as the Netsuke. Out of necessity quickly became artistic beautification of highly talented skills that were proudly and openly expressed through the artworks of the Netsuke designs.

Since Netsuke was one of the very few artistically allowed ways of open Japanese expressiveness during the Japanese Edo time period, the artesian world of Netsuke very quickly became the way of personal expressiveness. These intricately detailed Netsuke carvings were and still are most popular for their uniquely open designs and they are still carved today with the same passionate expressively detailed mannerisms as of those originally designed over 300 years ago.

Whether the Netsuke is of antique status or of contemporary artistic means, those little round or flat 1-inch detailed pieces will easily sell today up to thousands of dollars. Just as of yesterday's and today's Netsuke artworks the materials that Netsuke is made of ivory, animal horns, animal bones, the teeth of various animals, certain types of hard corals, bamboo, porcelain, agate, hardwoods, Tagua nut, lacquer, and even woven cane. There are often also accents of various types of metals added to the Netsuke piece for more elegance and detailed beauty.

Netsuke may be designs of animals, nature, designs of abstract objects, scenes of daily life situations, plants, people that are popular mythical wise, religious figurines, scenes of history and or of literature stories.

It may be printed, embroidered, stone and mirror embedded et al. The content of sari can be cotton, silk, synthetic or guy numerous a lot more factors. In addition to its colour and style, the most striking and charming characteristic about the sari is that it is not cut or tailored for any unique dimension and can suit any women. Ahead of and in the course of Edo time period, material was class oriented, silk was reserved by the for the upper class people today. All adult 'kimono' are reduce into 8 items from one roll of cloth about 36cm, 14 inches large and 11m long. The seams are reduce straight and always the identical width regardless of the wearer's size, so cloth is left about. Any added length was tucked beneath or about the 'obi' dependent on the gender. 'Kimono' is simple in design and style and there is no fasteners applied to hold the 'kimono', close. 'Kimono' is created according to age, social standing and gender. Just as a married girl would wear a 'kimono' made out of darker fabrics and with shorter sleeves than a young unmarried lady. Under the 'kimono', the lighter 'kimono' is referred to as 'Nagajuban'. An 'Han-eri'(a scarf like collar) is worn involving kimono and neck. Some other dresses worn by them are 'Yukatabira'(light and loose fitting robes), 'Happi'( a brief coat), 'Kamishino'(two piece costume), "Kataginu' etc. "Hakama' is like pants and has seven folds that signifies seven human traits this sort of as courage, humility, justice, chivalry, honesty, loyalty and prestige. For the duration of monsoon they wore jackets built up of straw. 'Cording', 'sashes' and 'obi' are employed to shut distinct types of jackets.

All Japanese clothing are wonderfully embroidered and designed with lovely cloth performs. Outfits are highly decorative that consists of friends and family crests, animals, bamboo, flowers, branches and so forth.

China: The 'Pien-fu' is an historical two piece ceremonial garment of a tunic like top extending to the kneesand a skirt or trousers extending to the ankles. In China, garments indicated not only class gender variation but also ethnicity. Han Chinese and Manchu ended up two major ethnic groups in China who wore distinct cloths. The ornamental band, appliquéd borders and richly variegated embellishment and embroidered design and style is 1 of the exceptional functions of the conventional Chinese gown. 'He ch'ang-p'ao' is one particular-piece garment extending from the shoulders all the way to the heels. "Shen-I' is a cross amongst the 'pien-fu' and the 'ch'ang-p'ao'. It is made up of a tunic and a skirt or trousers like the, 'pien-fu' but the tunic and the skirt are sewed with each other and essentially one particular piece like the 'ch'ang-pao' .Chinese apparel is not only an exterior expression but also an internal symbolism. Darker shades of coloration are favored to lighter shades. Dresses with lighter coloration are worn by the individuals for daily use.

I'm planning an adult Indiana Jones themed birthday party for my husband and need ideas for the party!?

So far I've bought Indiana Jones m&m's, Indiana Jones fruit snacks. I'm trying to figure out whether to have the party in my apartment (it's kind of small) or my apartment Community Room which costs $150 to rent and I'd rather spend the money on his gifts, decorations, etc. I had also thought about having it a restaurant, but then I can't do all the fun Indiana Jones decorations (tiki lights, lanterns, bamboo, grass skirts to line the counters and tables, etc.) I'm going to do party favors for the guests with Indy fruit snacks, fake small snakes and other bugs, these bounce ball brown colored rocks for the boulders). I also want to do a poster that says "Club Obi Wan Bar" for all the drinks. I want to use orange, red, and yellow crepe paper for decorating too. There are two possible restaurants in L.A. that I'm looking at: The Elephant Bar and Amazon Bar N Grill. They are both kind of jungle/tropical themed, but again, I wouldn't be able to do the decorations? Any thoughts?

Depending upon the number of guests you plan to include in the party, I'd recommend keeping it to a small intimate group. You'll find you will have less to provide, and I believe the guests will enjoy being able to take part in the function. Ask your friends for input. Most likely, each will have a version of the movie that they enjoyed. Let them help with the setup. Provide a "trivia game" on the subject, have a "treasure hunt" (let your guests bring small inexpensive momentos of the story line, that can be traded through a "drawing" allowing each person to pull a wrapped item from a "treasure pit", and allowing the next person in line to either take the first item, or to choose from the remaining items. The process allows one person who got a prize three times in a row, get to keep the item, and no one else could take it away). You'd be surprised how much fun this can be. Also as a treasure hunt moment, have the guests blindfolded, and have them have to dip their hands into a bowl of "cannibal guts" (cold boiled spagetti w/out sause) to find a special gift or "clue" under the bowl of wet slimmy pasta. Of course, none of the guests are suppost to know what is in the bowl, Maybe putting the bowl inside a sealed box, with a "hand hole" The only real problem with this gag, is it can get messy. There are many fun gags you can play, maybe check with a costume shop, they may have other ideas.
Oh, by the way...Club Obi Wan Bar, I think it was a "Star War" thing. Anyways, your husband is sure to have a blast. It sounds like he has a loving wife who wants to make him happy. Have fun!

Women of quiet strength
Female artists play a significant role in Japan's art world today, but a century ago, only a few women made a mark in the then male-dominated field. Shoen Uemura stands out as one of the most successful, a status she earned through the relentless study and perfection of her chosen theme of bijin-ga — pictures of beautiful women. "Uemura Shoen," at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo ...
