Well, to start, and for the most part you know this, a great woman isn't often sitting around the house reading the personal ads. At least not daily... most of the time she's busy doing her thing, living life and enjoying herself. 1. It needs to be brief and to the point.
- An ad isn't the place to pour out your heart or give intimate details about yourself. Show that you have boundaries & save that kind of information for the relationship.
- Don't risk putting unnecessary details in that might not be a turn-off once she meets you.
- Don't put a lot of restrictions in about what you're looking for. If you're not into BBW, then you don't need to respond if she contacts you. But restrictions of all types put out limitations, and believe it or not, you're less likely that the woman you want will respond either.
- This is a good place to make an important point. As long as you get a response from a real woman, take her out! Don't worry about whether she's 'the one' or perfect for you. Get out of the house and meet someone! The more you do it, the more you're being the guy that women want to meet!
2. It needs to be a clear offer - a movie (a specific movie with option to consider another is best), drinks or dinner at a specific place or kind of place (pizza & beer or a particular ethnic food) or someplace brand new, or an event. Whatever it is should be preferably at a public place, not your home, and if you want to suggest an activity, a climbing gym or a busy public hiking trail is better than a secluded place an hour's drive away... save that one for later!
- This shows that you have a plan, and a specific plan is much more enticing.
- It also shows that you are open to meeting, not carrying on an endless string of emails that go nowhere.
- And it shows courtesy to start off someplace public; it'll make a woman feel that you care about her safety too.
3. It needs to have some sense of urgency. (She's bored today, remember?) If you don't get her now, you don't know when you'll get this chance again.
- It's best to post for today or tomorrow, or at least the very near future. If you'd like to do a same-day post, make sure you post early enough to give women a chance to respond. Posting at 8pm for dinner the same night is not realistic.
- Don't leave a lot of time for reconsideration on either of your parts! Just get out and meet!
4. It needs to be honest.
- If you're hoping that the date turns into more, don't lie about your age, height or anything else. Do you really think starting off with lies sets up the right energy for a successful partnership?
5. It should be bold enough to have a clear and recent picture of your face or mid-full length shots as long as they are not from too far to get a clear picture of what you look like now.
- Posting a photo is an enticement. It shows that you are bold. Women like brave men who aren't afraid to put themselves out there.
- Even if you "haven't changed" since college, post a recent photo. You may look "the same", but you've aged, whether you can see it or not. And don' t assume that's a bad thing! Show up looking like the man she's expecting to see.
- Don't use photos of yourself naked, half-naked or in bed (exception: a great photo of you at the beach or pool). Don't use photos of yourself taking the picture in the mirror! You can take a picture of yourself without the mirror if you do it right, or get a friend to take a photo of you.
- Don't use a photo of yourself cut out of a picture where it's clear you were standing next to a woman. A potential date does not want to see pictures of you where you've cut out your ex, it's tacky.
- If you simply refuse to post a photo of yourself, then I recommend you don't post one at all; at the very least, really consider the message you're sending before you post a cartoon, silly symbols or otherwise meaningless picture just for the sake of posting something.
For you men who don't do so well reading between the lines, I stated in the beginning of this article that "great" women don't often sit at home reading ads. The same goes for men. If you consider yourself a great guy, of course it's ok to post an ad. However, if you're not also getting out and enjoying life, then that's a bigger problem than not having a woman at your side. If you're putting any part of your life on hold until your dream woman comes along, you're missing out on life and missing out on the chance to find her naturally.

Also, it is important to head someplace where you know you will be able to hear yourself think, and more importantly, hear your potential dates attempts to introduce himself.
Now that you are up, dressed and out of the house, there is another mistake women often make. What is that? It is "getting out there" without getting ready first! At the very least I recommend a glance in the direction of a mirror to catch a stray piece of spinach in the teeth or wayward bangs. Preferable is a full-length mirror so that you can make a proper assessment. What is the use of perfecting your makeup if your outfit is sloppy? While "looks are not everything," your appearance does have an effect on how others view you - particularly men. Taking care of yourself shows that you also know how to care about someone else.
Further, I beg you, please do not be one of those women who decides to make a last-minute grocery shopping trip on her way home from the gym! Gym apparel was named such for a reason - nature did not intend for it to be seen outside of a room with exercise equipment! If take the time to put even a little effort into your appearance you will feel more confident, which will in turn effect the way you carry yourself, which will result in your appearing more attractive to others. No matter where we are or what we are doing, we are sending out signals to those around us. Sometimes these are more powerful than we realize and as a result we can be telling men to "back off" without realizing it! Make an honest examination of your own and avoid crossed arms, which are a definite "leave me alone" signal.
Do not go overboard in the cosmetics department, but a dab of lip gloss and black mascara can go a long way. Even if you are a Granola Girl, keep this advice in mind: the natural look is beautiful but be careful with the naked look on your face, you want to avoid looking tired or washed out when trying to catch a man's attention. Play up your assets, downplay your flaws -- there are plenty of materials to read, how-to videos to watch, and professionals to consult on the matter of personal beauty. Do not be too shy to ask for some help or an honest opinion on how you are doing in the fashion department.

Men need feedback to be sure that you are approachable. If you aren't sending the right signals, but the man is picking them up from another woman who is definitely interested, who do you think he will choose? Hmm...
