We humans love anything new- from the latest fashions, to that new car smell. Dogs, on the other hand, thrive on routine and consistency. When beginning to crate train a new dog, the first obstacle you must overcome is the dog's natural mistrust and fear of a strange new facet of its already rapidly changing life. Contrary to popular belief, dogs have no "den instinct"- acclimating a dog to a crate is no different than introducing it to a new family, a new home, or any other strange phenomenon. However, this is no cause for despair. With a little love and patience, your dog can learn to be happy and content in its new crate.

The first principle of crate training is to use positive reinforcement at all times. Dogs simply don't understand concepts like "responsibility" or "justice". They only know pleasure and pain, in a direct association with the context in which they experience them. In other words, when you yell at your dog for whining in its crate, it understands only one thing- that crates are scary, uncomfortable places where they are yelled at. Successful crate training is all about making sure that the crate is a place of comfort, security, and praise.

To begin introducing a new crate to your dog, avoid forcing the issue. Begin by filling the crate with familiar objects- toys or bedding the dog is already accustomed to. Then, toss a few treats into the crate, and let the dog wander in to retrieve them on its own. Don't close the door behind it just yet- this is a sure way to make the dog think of the crate as a trap. Let it come and go as it pleases for a while. Next, try feeding the dog inside the crate. Again, simply place the food bowl in the crate, and leave the dog to approach it at its own pace. If it is hesitant to enter the crate, place the bowl near the door, and gradually move it further back into the crate as the dog's nerves settle. Once the dog is comfortably eating inside the crate, try closing the door.

This next part is tricky, and seems to contradict our previously stated principle a bit. If the dog begins to whine, DO NOT release it from the crate. The dog cannot understand that you are being "nice". It only knows that whining was rewarded with release, and you have effectively trained your dog to whine. Rather, wait until it has stopped crying- then release it, and reward it for its patience and maturity with praise and treats.

By introducing your dog to its crate incrementally, with all good behavior reinforced with lots of praise and rewards, you will cement the idea in its mind that crates are lovely, cozy places full of good feelings. Eventually, you won't need to reinforce the idea anymore- it will simply be a fact of your dog's life. This is no more instinctual than teaching a child to share, and is just as doable.

When it comes to providing a comfortable place for your dog to call home nothing beats a Soft Dog Crate. They are just as sturdy and dependable as traditional metal and plastic crates. Soft Dog Crates have the added benefit of being better ventilated, increased visibility, and Soft Dog Crates are extremely portable. When it comes to your Dog Supplies nothing beats a Soft Dog Crate.

Fierce Yet Loving Dogs

If you are looking for a cute dog that you can pamper regularly in a pet salon, then boxer dog breeds are not for you. If you are used to Shih Tzus and Poodles, you will not find this breed of dog to be attractive. However, if you consider the fact that this breed has been originally trained to hunt wild boar then you will have a clearer understanding why they have a mean appearance.

Even with this, boxer dog breeds are good to be around the house. Some kids may get scared because of their appearance but that would only be on first sight. Once they get to play with these dogs, their fear will disappear because Boxers are such playful dogs. They are also extremely smart dogs and could sometimes think on their own. Because of this, they could not be as obedient as other breeds that will just blindly follow your orders. If you will be able to train them in such a way that you will have control over them, then that would be to your advantage.

When you have boxer dog breeds, you would not have to worry about intruders because with their fierce barks, no one would dare cross their paths. For these reasons, one can conclude that Boxers really make excellent pets. From companions and guards, no pet owner will have difficulties in having them as pets. Since unlike other breeds, they do not require regular grooming, a lot of money would be saved by taking care of Boxers instead of other dogs.

America's First Fast Food: The Creation of the Coney Island Hot Dog
The history of Brooklyn can also be told through food, from Coney Island Red Hots to Junior's cheesecake. Here, Brooklyn Borough Historian Ron Schweiger tells WNYC's Kathleen Horan how a German immigrant named Charles Feltman (1841-1910) and a one-time employee of his, Nathan Handwerker (1892-1974), found success -- and rivalry -- by bringing America the frankfurter, or hot dog: Feltman’s ...
