As the awards season gets started this year and actors walk the red carpet, fashion blogs and celebrity magazines got their cameras rolling and pens ready. Which designers would the stars turn to? Who would wear a classic dress? Who would step out of the box and wear something totally unexpected? As lights flashed and the actors arrived, one theme became clear: colors. And not just any colors, but bold, beautiful, and deep colors, some almost jewel-like. From ruby reds to jeweled teals to quartz purple, rich and bold colors stood out on the red carpet. Celebrities such as Tina Fey, Cameron Diaz, Lea Michelle and Amy Adams (you've got to love an expectant mom rocking the red carpet), all sported vibrant colors in their gown selections, making bold statements.

The great thing about rich colors is that they are incredibly versatile and look beautiful next to any skin tone or hair color. While nudes or grays can wash out many people, deep colors play up your best features and really make a statement. As super-chic and famed celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe writes in her fun fashion guide, "...rich jewel tones tend to look good on almost everyone... Pale or dark, my clients tend to look best in colors that are rich and bold... These are colors that pop and look striking on just about anyone."

This example is clear with the dresses seen at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards this year. Sandra Bullock looked gorgeous in a deep quartz purple gown, Gabourey Sidebe looked glamorous in a bold blue dress, and Lea Michelle shown in a stunning jeweled teal gown. Whether you are fair skinned or darker, have brown hair or blonde, most deep and bold colors are complimentary to your coloring.

While these rich tones look gorgeous on a red carpet with the cameras flashing, they look equally as good in day to day life. A deep purple blouse or a cute red cami looks great paired with a pair of dark wash denim jeans. Pair a sapphire blue top with a cute skirt and you have a winning combination. When pregnant, a gorgeous empire waist top in a vibrant color or a cute wrap dress in a rich hue is an excellent addition to your wardrobe.

If looking for a maternity top to wear daily, from work to an evening out, a great choice is the Teal D&A Sash Maternity/Nursing Top from Japanese Weekend. This gorgeous teal color will make you feel radiant, and a deep v-neck and empire waist are figure flattering. This look and color is work appropriate yet also perfect for an evening out.

Another great maternity option is the Knit Flutter Top from Maternal America. A rich fuchsia color combined with a flattering flutter front design looks great with anything from jeans and flats to black pants and heels. Consider some gorgeous color options as you add to your spring wardrobe!

Just as bold colors look good on cute tops, they look also great on dresses. From flowing summer dresses to the classic cocktail dress, a rich color makes a statement. Classic black is always elegant and beautiful, but switching it up with an emerald green or sapphire blue really makes a statement. For an evening out or a special work party, the Embellished Dress from Maternal America is a twist on the standard cocktail dress and is sure to make a splash. Deep plum in color, it has a jeweled neckline and an empire waist which truly make a statement. Classic in shape yet modern in color, it is the perfect dress for that special evening. If looking for something a bit more casual, Maternal America's Front Tie Dress is another fantastic option. Splashes of bright blues really sparkle on this sleeveless dress, perfect for warm weather days.

From amethyst purple to emerald green, jewel tones are vibrant and beautiful. These highly saturated colors make a statement as a cute top or a stylish dress. Adding these colors to your wardrobe will spice up your day to day wear!

Spirited away - among the finest anime

Spirited Away is a fascinating, layered work, populated with the stuff of dreams. The hero of Spirited Away will not be a hot babe or a gruff warrior, however a normal, slightly sullen ten-yr-previous girl. Spirited Away is greater than two hours long, with a storyline that meanders and digresses like an old forest trail. It is usually the highest grossing movie in Japan's history. The lady, Chihiro stumbles upon one of those in-between places the place the separation between the human world and the spirit world becomes rice-paper thin. And the issues on the opposite facet are fantastic, terrible, foolish, and scary, and generally all 4 at the similar time.

Spirited Away, just like the fairy tales of previous, works as an escapist journey story, a metaphor for rising up, and a morality tale all in one. There's a tradition there, and a return to the themes that recur again and again in our most enduring youngsters's literature. The significance and hazard of meals what goes into our mouths and the facility of words to form reality what comes out of our mouths. The search to outline identification who am I? What's in a name? The mysterious guide. Greed punished. Good deeds rewarded. The person who helps a creature no one else would. Transformations. Humans to animals. Animals to humans. Associates to enemies and enemies to friends. The fact that things aren't always what they seem.

Although the themes are universal, there are textures and references right here that can be inaccessible to non-Japanese. But a part of what makes Spirited Away such a novel expertise is the truth that it's a really Japanese fairy tale, and thus that rather more unusual and unfamiliar. In spite of everything, we've seen dragons and witches and dwarves. However have we seen six-armed men and the spirit referred to as no face and inexperienced heads that bounce and babble?

One of the issues that will restrict Spirited Away's appeal to an American viewers is its virtually offhand mixture of silly and scary. Some serious anime followers will probably be turned off by cutesy parts like frogs in kimonos, chook spirits that seem like big versions of these yellow Marshmallow Peeps, and dwelling specks of soot even goofier than the cock-their-heads-to-the-side rattling forest spirits in Princess Mononoke. Dad and mom, in the meantime, might not be so thrilled in regards to the frequent use of blood, slime, and sharp pointy teeth. And there are some scenes which can be disturbing whether you're a child or not. But that's a part of what makes the world of Spirited Away so actual, and so transporting. As a result of the fantasy life of children, whereas harmless, is just not practically as simplistic, or as sanitized, as adults prefer to assume it is.

As happens every time a very good anime comes alongside, some folks will crow about how Spirited Away opens a giant oil movie canister of whoop-ass on Disney. Those individuals ought not be so eager to kick sand within the face of the Mouse. Clearly, Disney loves these things too, since they're distributing it and did a quite peachy job producing the English dub version. When you determine that a quirky foreign import has restricted field workplace potential, it turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Spirited Away has been out for three weeks, playing on fewer than one hundred screens, and quietly raking in half a million a weekend, on spectacular per-screen averages. And, as modest as the release is, it is still much wider than that given to recent releases like Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Metropolis, and Princess Mononoke. In fact, it is probably the widest release ever for a non-Pokemon anime.

Secret Santa - Movie Theme?

Our Secret Santa theme this year is movies and I've drawn out of the hat someone I barely know. Does anyone have any ideas on what the gift could be that relates to a movie. The budget is £10 and I'm looking for something a bit different. So far I have thought of a Sake set or a Kimono for Memoirs of a Geisha or a black pearl necklace for Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl. The lady is Chinese too so if there is anything that I could get that could include something Chinese it would be even better. Thanks

I'd go with the black pearl necklace.

As far as I know Sake and Geisha's are japanese, just in case you insult her.

Looking at it a different way... you may not want to bring race into the equation at all.
She may not be that patriotic or may just find it insulting that you see her race rather than her as an individual.
