Here are some more information for Japanese Folding Fan:

As times become more hectic and money to travel is less available, people are choosing to turn their homes into their own sanctuaries. Many gardens are being designed not only for beauty but also to provide an oasis for the mind and spirit. In particular, Japanese Garden designs evoke a strong feeling of tranquility and peace of mind. Japanese garden is all about harmony & balance, as well as using the right components. There are three traditional types of Japanese Garden designs and all integrate the use of the beautiful bamboo plant.
- Tsukiyama - Translated into "constructed mountain", this garden is designed with hills and contours and includes a type of water (either a pond or stream). Other elements include bamboo garden fences and a Japanese temple/house.
- Karensansui - Meaning "dry garden", Karensansui uses elements such as sand or rocks. Sand is raked in certain patterns that symbolize waves of water and benches are placed throughout to give owners places for quiet reflection.
- Chaniwa - This is the most complex of the designs and includes a winding pathway leading through a garden of water types and lush vegetation, eventually ending at a Japanese teahouse.
Whether or not you choose a Japanese garden design, you can incorporate bamboo into your garden in a variety of ways to exude an extra sense of peace and serenity.
Bamboo Fountains - Water features are an important part of Japanese garden designs and are excellent ways to create a space that evokes peace and tranquility. They are also a way to add a unique design element to your yard and if needed, the dripping water can aerate a pond.
Bamboo Benches - Bamboo has a straight fine grain like oak wood but is stronger and can endure better in outdoor weather conditions. It's pliable enough to be made into variety of designs and lightweight enough to be made into folding chairs that can be stored and moved at your own convenience. Make sure to look for products finished with natural oils.
Bamboo Wind Chimes - If growing a border of melodic bamboo is not an option, consider livening up your landscape with a bamboo wind chime. Available in a variety of designs and sizes, wind chimes are the easiest way to bring a soothing element to your garden.
A garden with any Japanese design element will be your oasis from this crazy world, giving you a space to reflect, meditate and spend time with friends and family. Bamboo is a natural and durable design option for the garden you desire (and deserve).

You Will Need
- A square of origami paper folded into a Bird Base
- A flat surface
Step 1: Position Bird Base
Position the Bird Base so that there are separate right and left flaps on the bottom. These flaps will be the tail and neck of the bird.
Step 2: Fold the right flap to the center edge
Narrow the top layer of the right flap by folding its outer edge to meet the center vertical edge.
Step 3: Fold the left flap to the center edge
Narrow the top layer of the left flap by folding its outer edge to meet the center vertical edge.
Step 4: Flip the model over and repeat
Turn the model over and repeat, narrowing the remaining layer of the right and left flaps on the other side.
Step 5: Fold entire right layer over
Fold the entire top right layer over to the left side, along the center vertical.
Step 6: Flip the model over and repeat
Turn the model over and repeat, folding the top right layer over to the right side, along the center vertical.
Step 7: Fold the bottom flap up
Fold the top layer of the long pointed bottom flap all the way up to the top. This forms the tail.
Step 8: Flip the model and repeat
Turn the model over and repeat, folding the remaining long pointed bottom flap all the way up to the top. This forms the neck.
Step 9: Fold head
Fold the tip of the neck in on itself to form a head.
Step 10: Fold left layer over
Fold the top left layer over to the right side, along the center vertical.
Step 11: Flip model over and repeat
Turn the model over and repeat, folding the top left layer over to the right side, along the center vertical.
Step 12: Pull tail down
Pick up the model and hold it in the middle along the bottom. With your other hand, reach in between the layers and pull the tail down and out to a pleasing angle.
Step 13: Repeat to pull neck down
Repeat on the other end to form the neck, and pull out the head.
Step 14: Fan the wings
Gently spread apart the wing flaps, allowing the crane’s back to spread open.
Did you know?
An origami crane folded in 2001 in a Japanese stadium had a wingspan of 256.5 feet—nearly the length of a football field.

Building a Japanese Fan?
Hi people! I'm doing a project in school, and I'm building a japanese fan (those kinds that are made of paper and wood). Does anyone know how to, or know a website that tells you how to make it? I want to make the kind that can fold and unfold, and I don't want it like a simple thing that a kindergarten person made. Can you provide me a website? Best answer goes to the one who is the most reliable! =D
Did you really have to post this 4 times?
Japanese fans are carefully folded high quality paper pasted to thin bamboo sticks which pivot at one end, so the folds have to be at an angle to each other. On the design paper use a compass to draw two arcs from the common center, the first about 3-4" out and the second 7-10 inches. Span about 120 degrees (1/3 circle)
Set the compass to the width of a fold (about 1/2-3/4") and on the outer arc mark repeatedly with the compass pointing from one mark to the next until done around the arc.
Draw lines from the center to each of the marks. Cut out the fan portion and use a steel ruler on a hard surface to fold every other line one way, then fold the lines in between the other way. Use your finger nail or a plastic or hardwood tool to sharpen the creases. Then open the paper and reverse the folds to loosen them.
Now make a dozen or more until you can make ones that bunch up into a totally even stack and pull out flat.
Now either paint on the surface and stick flat sticks to the other side or paint on very thin paper and glue it to both sides after applying the sticks.
