Japanese Panel Blinds - Are They Right For You?
Panel Blinds comprise of several large pieces of fabric which are attached to a slim line head rail using Velcro to allow for easy installation and removal. Each panel is attached to runner within the slim line head rail which varies in depth depending on the number of panels used for the blind. Panel Blinds are available in 3 different fabric widths 30cm, 45cm and 60cm. The width of the panel used depends on the width of blind required. The blind is opened and closed using a wand which is used to pull open and shut the lead panels which in turn will connect to the other panels and allow for complete closure or opening of the blind.
Panel Blinds work using a method which is very similar to the Vertical Blind system, although the head rail used is much deeper to allow for the pieces of fabric to stack behind each other. Each fabric Panel is attached to a runner which is housed inside of the slim line head rail. When the blind is opened and closed using the control wand, the fabric panels run along the track picking up the panel behind in a smooth operation closing or opening the blind in full as required. Once fully closed the panels will provide complete closure creating a wall of fabric. When a Panel Blind is fully opened the fabric panels stack behind each other leaving only the side of the window or opening covered.
Panel Blinds lend them selves to a variety of situations including French doors, sun lounge Doors, conservatory doors, room dividers and much more. Due the popularity of Panel Blinds in the Far East, Panel Blinds are quite often referred to as Japanese Blinds. They can quite often be seen in Far East countries used for dividing larger rooms into several smaller rooms, and then when required the blinds can be opened fully to reveal one large room which can then be used for functions.
Panel Blinds are very similar to Roller Blinds; hence the choice of fabrics is very large. You will find a variety of different colours and patterns including bright vivid reds, yellows and blues to more tranquil opaque fabrics gently covering an area but leaving the space behind visible whilst diffusing the light.
To measure for Panel Blinds used a steel tape measure instead of a fabric measure. This is because fabric tape measures have the tendency to stretch, thus leaving you with incorrect measurements and a blind which will probably not be suitable. As with all made to measure products, once a blind has been made there is very little scope for adjusting the size.
Take your steel tape and measure in several different places from the fixing point to the drop where you would like the blind to finish. If you would like the blind to fit from ceiling to floor, measure this exact distance in several places also. We measure in more than one place where the blind is to be installed in case the ceiling or floor does not run straight. Once you have several measurements take the smallest measurement and use this size when ordering. No allowance needs to be made if ordering recess size as an allowance will be made by the manufacturers are making of your blind. If however you do want to dictate the exact size of your new Panel Blind, ensure to instruct your manufacturer that the sizes you are providing are exact measurements. Once you are happy with the measurement of your drop, carry out the same procedure for measuring the width ensuring to measure in several different places.
Take these measurements to your chosen Panel Blinds manufacturer to receive a quote. One place where you can receive a quote instantly online is www.soeasyblinds.co.uk. They have a huge range of fabrics and offer a free sample service allowing you to view the sample in your home before committing to your purchase.

Are there any japanese/korean fashion designers that use recycle materials or organic fabric in their design?
Best known for colorful draping clothing designs that defy the traditional physics of the cut-and-sew system typically found on Seventh Avenue, the garments in the Diagami line by Leonore Alaniz are influenced by origami, the Japanese art of taking a single sheet of paper and creating complex shapes and designs without the aid of scissors or glue.
The Diagami collection is composed of dresses, shirts, blouses, skirts and jackets made from fabrics in vibrant hues and interesting patterns, which Ms. Alaniz constructs on the diagonal-not to be confused with the more widely-known "cut on the bias."
At one time, Ms. Alaniz even held a patent for her innovative approach to diagonal clothing design, a technique that is best explained as the designer's interpretation of the traditional Japanese kimono and the Indian sari.
"Categorically, it's ethnic," said Ms. Alaniz of her style.
