South India is a fascinating land with fascinating architectural marvels. For those who are interested in South India cultural heritage, they must plan a Temple Tour. The intricately carved and beautifully adorned temples are one of the most striking attractions of South India. Visit the temples, explore their architectural beauty, listen to their glorious and unique legends and participate in the festivals celebrated in the temples. You will not find any city in this region of India which does not have temples.
Huge and towering gopurams, tall gateways, intricate carvings, extremely beautiful sculptures, arresting mandaps are the distinctive features of South India temples. Visit any of the South India states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and you will find some of the most beautiful temples of India dominating their landscapes. One of the most famous temples is Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple which must be visited at least once in a lifetime:
Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Madurai, Tamil Nadu:
Incredibly beautiful, Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is among the most fascinating temples. Its architectural beauty never fails to capture the hearts of tourists who come here from far and wide. This temple is located in the historic city Madurai which boasts of its own glorious history. This nine-storied Hindu temple dates back to the 12th century and is dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (Parvati) and Lord Shiva. The 12 majestically painted gopurams, the walls adorned with paintings and sculptures, exquisite carvings and wonderful pillared halls are the major attractions of the temple.
Also visit the Golden Lotus Tank in the temple complex where devotees take a dip before entering the temple to worship the goddess. There is a legend attached to it according to which Lord Shiva himself created this tank. It is also believed that one accumulates good fortune by taking a dip in this tank.
Don't miss the musical pillars of the temple which are too fascinating. These pillar number five and have been carved out of a single stone. When tapped these pillars produce sound. Do visit the 'hall of Thousand Pillars' where you can see 985 pillars with wonderful carvings. And the most interesting part is that all the pillars look different from each other in terms of architectural beauty.
The temple serves as the venue for the celebration of the marriage anniversary of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva annually on the occasion of Meenakshi Kalyanam festival.
South India attractions are many in number which draw tourists throughout the year from across the globe. If you wish to experience the rich culture of South India plan a south India temple tour and treat your senses with sheer architectural beauty of the temples like Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai.
Japan calling Tirupur Textile SME Exporters
After occupying a major share of the Western markets such as the US, the UK and Europe in the hosiery and knitwear sectors, Tirupur textile exporters are now busy assessing the consumer-buying behaviour and market preferences in Japan. The country is emerging as a favoured export destination for several small and mid-sized textile firms as it offers immense scope and holds out the promise of greater returns for apparel exporters.
The idea of tapping the Japanese market has largely been triggered by the mounting recessionary pressures, which are making it difficult for the Indian SME textile exporters to retain their share in the traditional export markets.
Shift in focus
Analysts, largely, blame the slowdown for prompting the Tirupur SME textile exporters to shift their focus to emerging countries such as Japan, South Africa and the Middle East.
The recession has eaten into the volume and the profit margins of the small textile exporters supplying products to the US, the UK and Europe. Over the past few months, there has been more than 30% fall in the orders placed with the Tirupur knitwear cluster by buyers in the European Union and the US, which accounts for 55% and 30%, respectively, of the total textile exports from the region.
“The hostile trading conditions, consistent fall in orders and protectionism practised by the US and the European countries have prompted Tirupur textile exporters to explore opportunities in lucrative markets like Japan,” said D Dasgupta, Financial Analyst at CMC in Kolkata.
Furthermore, interest shown by some of the big Japanese apparel retailers to source products from Tirupur textile units, ample scope in the high potential Japanese market and the promise of government support from both nations are encouraging apparel exporters to assess the business opportunities in the ‘land of the rising sun’.
“The opportunity to make inroads into newer markets like Japan is exciting for the textile SMEs since so far a very small and insignificant share of this lucrative market has been captured by the Indian enterprises. Therefore, there remains immense scope for the Indian SMEs to offer high-quality knitwear and Textile Products to help them gain a larger foothold in this market,” said S Ramasamy, Proprietor of Aalfa products, a small-sized manufacturer of hosiery items in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu.
The SME Textile Exporters in the region, planning to enter the Japanese market, can also seek help from the textiles ministry, which is planning to forge a tie-up between India's National Institute of Fashion Technology and National Fashion School in Japan. This collaboration will offer new entrants a better understanding of the Japanese market.
However, going forward, Indian SMEs planning to foray into Japan with their product basket need to modify their conventional business models and maintain high-quality standards to carve a niche in this emerging market.

Does anyone know anything about the Soul Warriors?
I am a sword collector, and an avid martial arts enthusiast. I recently stumbled across the Soul Warrior Black Katana, intrigued I attempted to find information on the "Soul Warriors," yet I found nothing.
The sword description spoke of how this make of sword was passed down in Japan and each Soul Warrior would carve an insignia before again passing the sword along. Has anyone heard any information on the Soul Warriors, or is this myth?
If myth, it still is a great story.
