how can you tell if something is real gold at home?
I have this pin that i think is gold but has know marking that i can see the piece also has roses carved into white and green jade or jadeite with gold around it. I have not taken the broach any where yet to get it look at yet. I was just wondering if you can test gold or jade at home.
Gold is soft. You maybe able to take a straight pin and see if it goes through or indents. In the old days they used to bite down on it and if it dented then they knew it was gold. You could always take it in to get it appraised.
