how do i get rust off a iron teapot very rusty?
There is a cleaner called CLR. I had a box of tools that had been left out in the weather for several years. Everything was covered with rust and I was far more inclined to throw the mess out. Instead I dumpted the heap of tools into a basin and covered them with CLR. I left them over night and the next day I simply rinsed them with water.
I suspect that CLR is an acid because rust is the decaying product of alkaline metals. In the event that you cannot get CLR try soaking in a pot of vinegar. Some say that heating the vinegar up is a good step to take. I have never tried that. I would not hurt.
