Great! All the pieces have been assembled for your crazy quilt. Thread embellishing is the next to do item on the list. What types of stitchery would you like to do? Silk and embroidery threads are choice, however, have you been to the threads department lately? There are many new choices, have fun.
Before you go shopping you probably have an idea as to how you may want to embellish the crazy quilt. Your question concerns what types of stitching can be used. My answer is to start with what you know.

You are welcome to use any of these stitching methods that were listed and any other methods that I do not know about. Each category has much to offer in stitching styles and uses. Work with one or several stitching techniques.
Cross stitching is great for making a label for stitching names, dates, special occasions or events and the signature of the quilting artist that made the crazy quilt. Or perhaps there is a poem, quotation, or special message.
If poems or special messages are long and wordy or you have a special signature, you may choose to write in calligraphy style. Use a fine point pen and permanent washable ink.
Crazy quilts contain people, animals, and flowers and we want to emphasize the objects by doing outline embroidery. For one of my projects I thought it appropriate to use a small stemming stitch.
When working with fancy or bridal fabrics I choose to use metallic threads to add luxury and glamour. On cotton, rayon thread seems to add a bit of soft accent glamour.
The satin embroidery stitch is used often in crazy quilts as it adds a raised dimension to leaves, flower petals, bird wings, and any number of objects. The type of thread that you use will add reality to the object or enhance elegance and luxury.
Imagine using these other methods to embellish your quilts:
- fabric dyeing
- textile painting
- staining with tea or coffee
- photo transfer
- ink jet printing
Use your imagination with yarn, cord, leather, plastic, and narrow ribbons as other thread-like media which can be used. Outlining with any of these materials will add another dimension of interest. Experiment and play with the different sizes of ribbon creating small flowers, stars, and abstract designs. Weave ribbon in and out through lace holes to create beauty and interest.

Attractive and Useful Fountain Pens
There were many ordinary pens around the house, but I was fascinated by the appearance and characteristics that my grandmother from the pen provided. How to make color tattoo ink?
I have been doing my own tattoos pinch and poke with caligrophy ink for years, but is there a way to get any other colors without buying actual tattoo ink. Calligraphy ink is cheap but only in black. Please only replies on how to do this not replies on Why I shouldn't do this.
this will sound strange but i had a patient from the jail say that they took red M&Ms and put them in baby oil to make red ink for there jail house tattoos. from what i saw they looked good. the color was good.
