Many of the traditional forms of footwear have been moulded into fashionable mass produced products to be worn in the western world, these fashion symbols often include the espadrille, flip flops (a cheap alternative to shoes in the summer), Roman sandals and saltwater sandals predominantly worn by children.
Generally, the summer season in most regions of the world has an evident increase in tourism whilst outdoor activities usually increase as a result of the warmer and more favourable conditions. Women often wear sandals as soon as the weather is dry and warm enough to show off their brightly coloured nail varnish; however sandals are often worn during evening events.
