Elephant Buddha

Born in the sixth century B.C. in what is now known as Nepal, Prince Siddhartha was son to King Shuddodana and his beautiful wife Mahamaya. It is said that the Queen had an auspicious dream of a white elephant upon the conception of her first born. The infant was given the name Siddhartha, meaning 'he who achieves his aim.' The seers and scholars of the day all predicted that the young prince would either become a great king or a great holy man.

Prince Siddartha's mother died very shortly after his birth and he was raised by his mother's kind sister. King Suddodana was quite determined that his son would live to succeed him as a royal emperor, and protected Siddhartha behind luxurious palace walls for all of his youth. The King shielded him from all religious teachings and all knowledge of human suffering, sickness, disease or death. The Prince grew to be a handsome, strong young man and was trained in the arts of war. At the age of 16, the Prince was wed in an arranged marriage to a cousin Yasodhara, and eventually she bore him a son, Rahula.

The Prince became increasingly restless behind palace walls, and curious about the world outside. He demanded his father permit him to meet the people of his land and, despite his father's attempts to choreograph the event, Siddhartha discovered those who were old, sick and dying, as well as ascetic monks. These discoveries eventually led him to kiss his wife and son goodbye and depart the palace under cover of night.

Siddhartha gave away his rich clothing, cut his hair and began his search for a means to overcome suffering. He studied with various gurus, but did not find his answers, and continued to practice austerities and self-mortification, along with a group of five ascetics. His austerities led him close to death until he was offered some rice-milk pudding by a peasant girl. He concluded that only the Middle Way, not the extremes of life, could lead one to the truth. Finally, he sat under a certain fig tree in the town of Bodh Gaya in deep meditation. It is said he was assailed by the demon Mara and sat for many days. At the age of 35, The Prince finally conquered all his temptations and realized the truth, becoming known as the Buddha, which means "he who is awake," or "The Enlightened One."

The teachings of Gautama Buddha became the fundamentals of Buddhism and were centered around the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. The Four Noble Truths are that life contains suffering; suffering has a cause, and the cause can be known; suffering can be brought to an end; and the path to end suffering has eight parts. The Eightfold Path is: right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration.

The five ascetics who first practiced austerities with the Buddha became his first disciples and the beginning of The Sangha, or community of monks. After a return visit to his palace home, the Buddha welcomed numerous members of his royal family as disciples as well. His cousin, Devadatta, became a monk but toed to have the Buddha killed and take over the Buddhist community, but his attempts failed. The Buddha taught throughout northeast India for another 45 years to peoples of all caste and persuasion, attempting to help them reach enlightenment.

At the age of 80, the Buddha predicted that he would soon reach Parinivana, or the final deathless state, abandoning the earthly body. He told his disciples to follow no leader, but to follow the teachings, or the Dharma. It is said that his final words were, "All composite things pass away. Strive for your own liberation with diligence."

Gautama Buddha continues to illumine his followers today through heartstreams delivered through David C. Lewis. Meditate on his words concerning the use of right speech given on June 29, 2008:

What is speech but the flow of the word through the strings, your vocal chords, which vibrate in a particular frequency whereby you desire to express something from your heart, wisdom from your mind to another. Watch and listen carefully to your speech. Does every word flow from that point of perfect presence of your God-reality? Is every word expressive of the Word who you are as a Christ or a Buddha? In mindfulness, let that word be true. Let it sing. Let it soar. Let it surround the cosmos with God-intent, with mercy and kindness. The words of the Master Jesus still echo across the cosmic sea. And thus it may be for your words, O soul, spoken in holy love.

Take back those words that you have spoken that have not been true, by your inbreath-receiving them back to the core of reality of who you are, washing them with the new wine of the Word and then, when the time is ripe, speaking them once more correctly with right speech. This is a spiritual practice that I give you this day for the transmutation of all misuse of the word. Simply breathe in now all of these misguided words of the past. And as the concepts, the syllables, the energy thrust behind them in unconsciousness are consumed within the solar sun of being of your Presence, see them now as the original Word of the One, which you may now speak in love.

For initiates on the path of oneness, right speech is very important. For if you can begin to eliminate the creation of new, negative karma in this way, then all which flows through you may then arise from this new point of cosmic presence, and the past is dissolved into nothingness, into the cosmic void from which you may then co-create beautifully anew.

Some words about esoteric Buddhism

Buddhism, contrary to Hinduism, is quite a homogenous path to liberation - the Buddha's Four Noble Truths clearly define it. The difference between Buddhism and Hinduism is that Buddhists do not consider Gods so important as Hindus do; for Buddhists relevant is only the path to liberation or to nirvana the direction of which described Buddha. Buddhism has two basic schools of teaching - Pali Canon Theravada, also called the Southern School (Sri Lanka, Indonesia...) and Mahayana - the Northern School (Tibet, China, Mongolia, Japan...). These two schools have their subschools.

Shingon

Shingon is an esoteric school of Buddhism started by a mysterious monk named Kukai in Japan at about the end of the first millennium (700-800 AD). This form of Buddhism is also known in Japan as Mikkyo (secret path). Mikkyo originated in India and its practice is very similar to the Ganapatyas sect (worshippers of Lord Ganesh who consider Ganesh, contrary to mainstream vaishnavists or shaivists, Supreme God of the universe). Ganapatyas still exist in India, but they are not documented very well, as their practice is secret like that of Shingon. Most information from both teachings has never come out to the public.

Shingon is typical with rituals, magic, with invoking Gods, which you may also notice, for example, by looking at quite very unusual statues of Kantingen (two Ganeshas, a female and male form of the elephant God making love - http://www.freebsd.nfo.sk/esoteric/buddha.htm), which priests in Japan hold from the public eyes and keep in great respect.

Kukai went to China where Hui-Guo, a master of Buddhism, initiated him to Chen-yen or Zhenyan, which is Shingon in Japanese (or Mantrayâna in Sanskrit). Most historians date the presence of Ganesha in Japan back to times when this great monk started his Shingon sect in Japanese Buddhism. The means of worshiping Ganesha, Ganabachi, Vinayaka, or Kankiten hold attributes that make this cult different from all other Buddhist streams.

Kankiten is a real God who exists. There are a few fascinating stories about His appearance in Japan near the temple where He is revered (Kamakura). But He is considered to be very wild, so in Japanese Buddhism He has His female counterpart and that is the reason why statues of Kantingen consist of two elephant-headed Gods embracing themselves. His oldest statue in Japan (13th century) is in Kamakura at the Hookaij-Ji temple. Nanten is the male Ganesha form and Nyoten the female form.

I was thinking to do somthing like this:
Day 1 (DAMNOEN SADUAK FLOATING MARKET & ROSEGARDEN)
Day 2 (CITY TOUR & GRAND PALACE, ANCIENT CITY
and JIM THOMPSON HOUSE)
Day 3 (RIVER KWAI & TIGER TEMPLE )
Day 4 (AYUTTHAYA)
I getting proposal arround from 300$ thru 600$ or more per person just for tour for 2 person. So i wonder to know if there is a cheap option direct in bangkok or is better to do onlinebooking. ???????
Any one have information about price in travel agency localy in bangkok. How much the charge for a tour.

Thailand, Bangkok in particular, is one easiest countries in that area for getting tours set up.

In Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Pattaya you simply find the nearest travel agency and check out their list of tours. All of the tours you want are pretty common, tour companies go to these places all the time.

After you locate the nearest travel agency (there are lots of them) choose the places you want to see and the tour company will pick you up at your hotel and return you there. They are used to quick turnovers, choose the tour early in the morning and you may be able to leave that afternoon. Same for evening dinner cruises. Or you can choose a tour in the evening and leave the following morning.

When you leave on tours or anytime you leave your hotel for a while make sure you have some toilet paper in your travel bag, also good idea to have some of those paper hand wipes (wet wipes/wetnaps.) Some stops you make may not have paper or means of cleaning your hands.

Probably a good idea to wear a hat to shade your eyes and some sun block too if you are going to be outside a lot.

When you buy your tour in person you know you are not getting cheated, also you know if there are any "hidden charges" right away! Often when you purchase anything overseas using a credit card there are "other charges" added into the final bill!

Good luck.

Good luck.
