How does a person who has no sewing skills, put an elastic band in the waist of their pants?
I have some pants that have no belt loops so i want to put elastic in the waist. How is it easily done? Some kind of glue? Iron on?
How do I choose the lenth of the elastic?
With out looking at them I'll tell you the way I sew in elastic easily to my kids cloths...
Buy one smallish package of elastic at a craft store, what ever width you like, wider is probably better for pants. They come in one or two feet sections, you won't need much. Get a sewing machine (don't think glue or iron work for elastic) get thread that matches your pants for bobbin and top thread. Take your elastic and lay it down where you want it on your pants (at the starting point, don't cut it yet). Set on zig zag stitch, anchor your elastic by going back and forth, then pull the elastic twards you tight, now sew the elastic down to the pants while it's pulled, go maybe 6 inches and see how they fit, if you need more sinched up, do some more, cut when you like the fit and anchor it off at the other end.
Hope this helps, the other way I do it if I don't want to mess with elastic is safety pins, fold over pants, pin, hope it doesn't come undone.
