What fairy tales of enchanted princesses and legendary lore of the Arabian Nights does not the mere mention of the ruby conjure up to our imagination! No stone has been more intimately connected with poetry and romance, and few gems can compare either in beauty or value with a perfect ruby. When Solomon exclaimed that "a virtuous woman was more valuable than rubies," and Job, that "the price of wisdom is above rubies," they both mentioned what to them was the most valuable thing in existence. And its value and rarity have not decreased since their time. Today a perfect ruby of five carats will fetch at least five times the value of a diamond of the same size and quality, while rubies without flaw or blemish, and of the true pigeon-blood variety, weighing as much as ten carats, are so rare and valuable that ten times the value of a perfect diamond would be considered a very low price to pay for so perfect a gem.

The ruby is the oldest or first known of all precious stones, dating far back in the early history of Chaldea and Babylonia. The finest specimens, as well as the largest quantities, are found in Upper Burma, and at the present time over one-half of the world's supply comes from this locality. The rubies found in Ceylon, Siam and Australia have not the deep rich color of the Burmese ruby which is a shade of red slightly inclined to the purple and is often called "Pigeon Blood Ruby." The value of rubies depends upon their color and transparency.

The red sapphire or ruby is the most valuable of the corundum family, and when found of a good color, pure and brilliant, and in sizes of one carat and larger, it is much more valuable than a fine diamond of the same size.

Rubies and Sapphires are scientifically the same stone, differing only in color. Corundum, the predominating mineral of both, is composed of nearly pure alumina. The coloring substance, which differentiates rubies and sapphires, is believed to be chromium. In the scale of hardness the gem ranks as No. 9 and is thus the hardest of all substances excepting the diamond. Color is the most important factor in determining the value of the ruby. The gem is always more or less imperfect, but its freedom from bad imperfections is also important. Since fine rubies of all sizes are extremely rare, the price increases very rapidly with an increase in size, and a fine ruby of more than four carats commands an extraordinary price and can be said to be the most valuable of all gems, exceeding greatly a diamond of equal weight. The color of the ruby varies from the lightest rose tint to the deepest carmine, but the rarest and most valuable shade is known as Pigeon Blood. This is the color of arterial blood. The ruby has always been greatly admired, and many say that the ruby in the British Crown is the most beautiful gem they have ever seen.

The ruby is found in limestone deposits on side hills, but the largest quantity is found in alluvial deposits of gravel and clay in riverbeds. These deposits are about fifteen to twenty feet below the surface and from a few inches to five feet in thickness. This material called "byon" is mined or removed and put through a washing process by which the rubies are recovered.

The genuine ruby is gotten from the mineral known as corundum. Emery, so much used, is an impure form of corundum. The superbly blood-red color of the perfect ruby is produced by the very tiny portions of impurity in the substance after they have been crystallized by Nature's wonderful processes. All genuine--that is natural stones, contain certain tiny flaws and blemishes and characteristic peculiarities. The fewer these flaws the rarer the gem. Imitation stones get their imperfections during manufacture, and as the chemists are more careful than Nature, these imperfections are less noticeable. By the following differences between the real and the artificial, you can test your ruby. A real ruby contains irregularly shaped bubbles; the imitation ruby contains bubbles that are perfectly round. Natural rubies all have a silky sheen, due to a number of tiny parallel lines going in three definite directions; imitation stones never have this characteristic.

While lab-created rubies and sapphires have a distinct use in jewelry, they can never affect the sale of the real gems any more than is the case with imitation pearls. Aside from the fact that the imitation can always be ultimately detected, the person desiring to purchase a ruby, as a ruby, and as a work of beauty and distinction wants a gem which he knows is one of nature's rarities and is therefore possessed of intrinsically great value. A good illustration of this fundamental feeling is given by Mr. Zell a noted mineralogist, who says, "Many perfect copies of the Sistine Madonna have been made by good artists, the original is priceless, the copies at the most are worth a few hundred dollars, this is the relation of a gem made in nature's laboratory to one produced by the chemist."

Today, the ruby is still considered one of the most valuable and beautiful of the precious stones. Artisans of fine jewelry throughout the world continue to utilize this fine gem in their creations. Ruby is the birthstone for the month of July.

THE CHINESE ARE COMING

What you may never find in your mainstream news sources . . .

THE CHINESE ARE COMING . . .

The demographic, environmental, religious and cultural pressures are building globally at a fast pace. In a future that is unpredictable it is difficult to say who will win, but one thing is for sure its going to be grim if not dark. Spiritual talks may be good for the soul but definitely bad for the nation and the physical safety of its citizens.

Last month in August 2009 the Chinese patrols had intruded in to Indian Territory 26 times and walked away with petrol and kerosene meant for our jawans guarding the border. On 30th August two Chinese helicopters entered the Indian air space and dropped some cargo very much inside the Indian Territory. In this year alone the Chinese have penetrated in to our land more than 700 times at different locations.

The army chief general Kapoor on these incidents has stated that “It could have been routine . . .”. As a bonafide patriotic and concerned citizen of this country I can retort and tell him “Send one of our old helicopters in to Chinese air space and see what happens”. In the not very distant past the Chinese had forcibly brought down a US surveillance aircraft which had intruded its territory and completely dismantled it, later the US had to collect bits and pieces of it. That is what I call integrity, strength and character of a nation,

A strong character and pride in the nation can come only with a strong law and order within the country. It has become imperative to punish the criminal’s right from the bottom to the top. The fear of the law has to be put in to their hearts... it is upon the politicians to do that but what can you expect of a country whose ministers have accounts in Swiss banks if not in their names directly then in the names of their near and distant relatives and friends.

Apart from China and Pakistan we have to be equally scared of our present politicians, if they find a loophole they would have no qualms in importing 10 million Chinese provided they can get votes from them. Trust them to invent convincing reasons to get them valid passports, ration cards or even the Nandan Nilekeni initiated Hi Tech cards.

Though a bit late in the day but not unusual for it, the Indian government is just about waking up to the real and present danger from China. Thanks to channels like Times Now.

The Chinese had made their intention public much before the 1962 war. In 1950 Mao had repeatedly proclaimed that Taiwan, Tibet and the Hainan islands were Chinese territories and will be repossessed. Nehru and his congress govt were busy enjoying the perks which came with power and totally neglected the threats emanating from this Hindi chini bhai bhai neighbor. Hence Nehru became the prime cause of the humiliation which our country had to suffer in the 62 war.

In 1963 Pakistan ceded to China a chunk of Indian Territory under its control, about 1580 sq kms. Through this very piece of land China has built the 1280 km Karokram highway linking Kashgan in Xinijiang in China with Islamabad in Pakistan, on this area of India called Aksaichin. The Indian defense experts have since 1980s been advising the Indian governments about the strategic importance and implications of the Karokram highway but the only reaction they have got in exchange was an eerie noiseless snoring.

Despite losing thousands of our soldiers and huge chunks of territory the Indian govts failed to realize the significance of the Chinese communists growing up as a military organization. Today China dares to claim a mammoth piece of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim based solely on its military prowess, in contrast the Indian politicians /ministers have degraded and demoralized our armed forces.

China has cleverly promoted and managed different streams of threat in to India, foremost is the communist threat which emanates from Beijing and flows right till our Kerala. Second is the Islamic fundamentalist threat which it encourages from its proxies to cunningly blend it with the Maoists and Naxalites in to a dangerous cocktail of terror (about this cocktail of terror- I had written a few weeks earlier)

Today China has surrounded us from all sides which was but a natural progression right since the 1950s, our governments have preferred to sleep over it for 59 long years only to suddenly wake us up to show the nightmare live in the last months of 2009.

The encircling of India is been called the “String of pearls”. In plain words the string of pearls is meant to throttle India, I would rather call it “the Hangman’s noose”. On the other side is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan doing the halal on India with pumping in counterfeit currency, terrorism, drugs etc... On yet another side is the not so friendly Bangladesh , Nepal , Colombo and other small island countries.

Some groups and people who are advocating the line that economic co operation with China will reduce its animosity with us are only are only trying to pull the wool over our eyes for their own selfish and hidden purposes , Taiwan is the best example of this.

Apart from manufacturing fake and spurious products China is the biggest exporter of clandestine nuclear materials to the world. The Pakistani nuclear missiles and technology are entirely Chinese supported and nourished. The Pakistanis on the sly ofcource with Chinese approval gave this technology to North Korea and North Korea gave it to Burma. For all you know the Pakistanis may tomorrow give it to Bangladesh, Somalia. Or even to their co coreligionists and brothers in arms the Al Qaeda, Lashkar E Taiba etc.Pakistan's A Q Khan and his gang is notoriously famous for the same.

Today India urgently needs not only a second but third strike capability and for that we have to develop military muscle on par with China... what if China attacks India and simultaneously Pakistan also strikes a aggressive onslaught in to India ? Have our military planners worked out this scenario? Have our politicians equipped the Indian armed forces for just such a beginning. Expect the unexpected.

The Indian government always denies the most serious problem till the time the lid is blown off and they can’t keep it under the hatchet anymore. I strongly suspect the politicians are sitting smug all because the Indian population is busy watching and debating the half porn types of  reality shows, dance competitions etc on television. Another part of this populace is in to the gurus who are preaching the rat like meditation but no one is preaching the art of war and destruction of the enemy. India could very well come apart at its seams as a major section of Indians are so enamored by the punks of Bollywood that they are growing up with just one ambition to be like those actors and actress. They are more interested in acting and dance classes than their studies or the welfare of the country. Looks like soon they will have to learn Chinese to survive.

Today India and its valiant armed forces need a true soldier who will stand up to the Indian politicians so that we can welcome the Chinese, Pakistanis and jihadis with open arms only to send them back wrapped up in their coffins.

Which Is More Likely Chinese Conquest: Myanmar or Vietnam?

Taiwan is still viewed by China as part of its nation so military
action against it would be termed as an internal matter.
That said, given that Xizang was last border adjustment
conquest, the next is expected to be equally a surprize.
Why not Myanmar or Vietnam? Is somebody easier?

Kashmir

Fly to 38 15' 51"N, 105 57' 09"E on Google Earth and you will discover an amazing land feature. I stumbled upon it by accident and spent some time trying to figure out if this was a copy of a real landscape. It is, its the Chinese Kashmir border in scale so large its a mile across. I think the other place next to it is a war college.

As far as Taiwan goes the Chinese will wait to test the new President just as they did Bush in his first month in office. Then decide if they will want to move on it during this presidency or not. Time is on their side. A lost war by us or another Jimmy Carter then they can move. Every day they get stronger.

Glad you asked
