Can gingerbread or marzipan stay good indefinitely? (Not for eating?)?
I collect cat figurines, and I happen to be in Brussels right now with tons of marzipan shops around. I've seen quite a few cooked marzipan creations in the windows, and they leave them there for months, so I'm wondering whether cooked marzipan ever goes "bad." If I bought a figurine, would it disintegrate within a year or something? I wouldn't think baked marzipan would spoil or anything.
And what about gingerbread? We have gingerbread Christmas ornaments that we got as kids and they're still in the same condition, but I don't know if these particular ones were put through a special process.
Odd question, I know, but I thought I should ask- I have cats made of much stranger stuff than this 
usually when people make gingerbread or bread anything edible that they want to keep for an extended period of time, they shellac it and seal it from outside air and bacteria that would breakdown the sugars in the product.this way it will stay looking nice in definitely.
