Here are some more information for Carved Ring:

Different jewelers specialize in different settings, It takes a sharp eye and attention to detail as well as patience to be a setter. Here are the different types of settings and their benefits.
Prong Set: The most commonly used setting style where gold tips are placed around a stone and bent toward it to hold it in place. Prongs should be in a size according to the size of stone. The larger the stone, the taller and thicker in width the prongs should be. The smaller tinier stones used to accent a piece can also be set in prongs, these usually can hold with two prongs facing each other. Consider the famous Tiffany Set, which is a diamond set with six prongs around. Of course the more prongs you place around a stone the safer, however, prong set rings should be checked every now and then to make sure they're not worn out. We've saved customers from being very close to loosing their big carat diamond because they had neglected to fix worn out prongs or prongs that had been pulled away from the stone. So it's very important to have your rings schedueled for an inspection every three months, depending also how often you wear a particular ring.
Chanel Set: often found in bands, eternity bands, bracelets, engagement rings. In this type of setting, a channel is carved into the metal surface, creating two walls each side of the row of diamonds. The top of the walls are flush with the top of the diamonds. The channel is slightly smaller than the diamond size and therefore a cut is required on each side of walls to tuck the diamonds in and this is how they are held in place.
Bezel Set: The stone is held by a wall risen around the diamond and the top of the wall is hammered to slightly cover the stone and hold it in place. You can also find half bezel setting which is the same technique except the wall doesn't go all around but rather created half circles each side of stone. This way you see more of the diamond.
Tension Set: This setting is the least safe however it is the type that showcases the stone the most. Two walls with a space between that is smaller than the stone, hold the stone in place with pressure that is created. The stone in a tension set has no other support, no under bezel or surface. Often seen in man's rings.
Pave setting: Pave style is when a cluster of diamonds invade the surface of a ring, all you see is a multitude of diamonds shining. Hole cuts are made where diamonds go and special tools carve prongs out of the surface of the metal to hold the stones in place. Occasionally the carved out prongs will wear off and a stone will fall, smaller stones are less expensive to replace. In general, you should take care not to wear your rings when washing dishes, showering, at the beach or gardening; this way you will reduce the chances of wearing off the settings too fast. They will eventually weaken and need inspection.
They might just require a little tightening, so don't put off a visit to your jeweler.

Unique and Alternative Mens Wedding Rings
The words "unique", "alternative" and "contemporary" often characterize today's popular men's wedding rings. This may be due to the fact that for decades – even centuries – men's ring collections consisted of only a few conservative band styles that were designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. Self-expression through wedding jewelry was something most men hadn't even considered back then. Needless to say, a unique and alternative wedding ring was hardly at the top of a man's wish list. Fortunately, times have changed.
When you hear about unique, contemporary or alternative men's wedding rings, it usually means the same thing. Men are tired of being traditional, and they're ready to wear rings that more accurately describe their lifestyle, personality and taste. Men have started shopping for rings that allow them to express their commitment in a much more personal way, and jewelry designers have answered the call.
Unique and alternative men's rings go beyond your typical wedding band selections to include rings that convey everything from spirituality to sexuality, ethnicity to eccentricity. And in a true departure from the ordinary, men's unique rings have grown to include alternative metals like tungsten, titanium and stainless steel. Alternative metals also give these rings a different look than their traditional gold domed counterparts. These industrial metals are sturdier and more durable than soft metals like gold and silver, which makes them ideal for men who work with their hands.
Men's unique and alternative rings are offered in a range of styles and in limitless collections. Some are two-toned or inlaid with carbon fibers; others are made from black tungsten carbide with a silver tungsten overlay. Men's rings offer so much diversity; it can take a while to decide on one style. They can be embellished, brushed, carved, beveled, flat-topped, woven, notched, spinning, tribal, engraved and more. Whatever your personal taste, there is a unique ring that will be a perfect match.
For the groom-to-be, an unique wedding ring can mean a lot of different things. It can be a fashion ring, a tungsten carbide cross ring, a black and silver titanium band, and dozens of other unique designs that have a special meaning between him and his bride-to-be. In fact, some couples seek out a specific symbol and look for matching rings that will signify this special bond in their relationship.
The idea behind choosing unique or alternative men's wedding rings is to let go of conventional thinking and use your imagination. Remember, there are no "rules" when it comes to wedding bands. Why not choose something that will be a meaningful symbol of your love?

is the engagement ring outdated?
i have come to the conclusion in my own life that with everything going on in the world- blood diamonds and such- how can we be so sure that no one was harmed in the carving of the ring. also, with things getting more and more expensive these days, it seems like a better alternative to save money in that area, and use the money that would be used for the ring, for the actual wedding. another issue is, are some engagement rings also used for the wedding ring? I've heard of this too. I'm starting to think that engagement rings are outdated. tell me what you think!!! thanks!!
~ I had the same worry about diamonds when I got engaged. However you don't have to get a diamond. you can get any stone you want. or no stone at all. the point is that you like it (you have to wear it). ~
