I read ebony is the better one... But aesthetically I prefer rosewood... What do you think?
I prefer ebony all the way. I think it doesn't matter much until you get up tp professional level and you need to get absolutely the best sound out of the violin that you possibly can. When I was competing at jugend musiziert I was advised not to use my violin and well, it had boxwood and wasn't a particular good violin either.
The denseness and hardness of ebony is favourable if you play a lot, the sound of the strings is not as heavily influenced, and I find that ebony shoulder rests are more comfortable.
Again, it all depends on how often you play. It might not make such a big difference at first bu if you practice 5 hours a day you'll notice.
