Mothers day is an important day, in which we honor our mothers. Many people do this by buying a mothers day gift, but there is a much better way to honour your mom!

Instead of buying a mothers day gift, why don't you make your own instead?

Your mom will appreciate the present a lot more, and you'll save a lot of money as well!

There are plenty of things you can make, from bouquets, to your own mothers day cards, and more. One of my favorite presents to make is a gift basket. They are easy to make, and look great!

You will need...

  • 1 large cane basket
  • 1 large posy bowl and guard
  • 9 purple silk roses
  • 1 packet of Pascall's Memorables (Eclairs, Columbines and milk chocolate caramels)
  • 1 box of Turin's Baileys Irish Cream Chocolates
  • 21 Ferrero Raffaello's
  • Curling ribbon
  • A roll of plane cellophane
  • 1 piece of patterned cellophane
  • 11 wooden skewers
  • 1 Dry oasis brick
  • 1 Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks

(nb: In the list above I have mentioned the candies that I use. If you can't find them, or you wan't different candies, please feel free to replace them with whatever you want.)

Step 1: Prepare the posy bowl...

Cut the dry oasis so that it will fit in the posy bowl.

Place the bowl guard on top of the oasis. This will help hold the oasis in place.

Now hot-glue the posy bowl to the bottom of the basket.

Step 2: Separate out the candies...

It's a good idea to separate the candies into separate piles based on their type and color.

This will save you from having to find candies later.

Once you've separated out the candies, put the largest piles of Memorables and Baileys Irish Cream to the side, for use later.

Pick out 11 Raffaello's to go into the candy bouquet bowl, and place the rest to the side as well.

Step 3: Wire and Tape...

Wire and tape all the candy in the two smaller piles of Memorables candy.

Take 5 of the Turin's Baileys Irish Cream chocolates and wire and tape these as well.

Place the left over Bailey's Irish Cream chocolates to one side.

Step 4: Skewer the candies...

Using 11 wooden skewers, push each Raffaello onto a skewer, and then cover with a small piece of cellophane.

Twist the cellophane slightly onto the skewer and then tape in place with the stem tape.

Be careful when pushing the Raffaello's onto the skewers, because if you use too much force they may break.

Step 5: Wrap the handle of the basket...

Take about 3 feet of gold curling ribbon for wrapping the handle of the basket.

Start on one side of the handle and tie off the ribbon in a knot.

Now just wrap the curling ribbon up the handle and tie off at the other side.

Step 6: Start adding the roses...

Normally when working with silk roses you would need to wire and tape them. But for this mothers day basket there is no need to do that.

Just push flowers will be pushed straight into the oasis. Because the flowers are being pushed into oasis there is no need to wire them.

Start by trimming the rose stems to about half their length.

Then place one rose in the center of the oasis.

Like a clock face place four more roses at 12, 3, 6 and 9. These roses may need their stems trimming a little smaller.

Push them in at an angle so they can be seen above the edge of the basket.

Step 7: Add the remaining roses...

Place the remaining roses into the top of the oasis, at varying angles from the center rose.

Step 8: Add the Raffaello's...

Trim the skewers on the Raffaello's to about half their length.

Push the Raffaello's into the oasis. Be careful to only push on the skewer, otherwise the candy might break.

Place the Raffaello's between the roses until all eleven are in the oasis.

Step 9: Add the Memorables...

Next place the Memorables into the oasis.

Trim your wires as you go. The length you need to trim will depend on where you place the candy in the oasis.

Try to vary the colors of the wrappers so that the colors are evenly spread out.

Step 10: Fill in gaps...

We now need to fill in any remaining gaps. I like to use figure-of-eight bows, because they are very quick and easy to make, and are quite decorative as well.

When I made the basket I added 7 bows, you may need to add a different number, but try to use an odd number if possible.

Step 11: Add the patterned cellophane...

Take some patterned cellophane and cut it in half.

Scrunch it up a little and place it on either side of the candy bouquet bowl.

Step 12: Add some more candy...

Now just take the remaining candy and scatter them onto the cellophane.

Make sure you put some on either side of the bowl.

Step 13: Finish the basket...

To finish off all you need to do is take a large piece of clear cellophane and wrap the whole basket in it.

You may need to place a couple of small pieces of adhesive tape to the sides to hold the cellophane closed.

Place some adhesive tape around the top of the cellophane at the top of the handle.

Now just tie a couple of curling ribbon bows to hide the tape and your done.

That's it! Simple, isn't it?

I guarantee that your mom will love this gift, particularly when she finds out that you didn't just buy it, but you actually made it for her!

Reptile Caresheet Albion Iguana

Iguanas are sensitive creatures; most of them rely on their environment for survival. Having an Albino Iguana as your pet gives you the obligation to properly care for it and make sure that it survives under your captivity.

One of the most crucial factors in an Albino Iguana's survival is food. So being the owner, you must appropriately feed it with the right food.

Iguanas are scientifically classified as herbivores so green leafy plants should not be in its main diet. Though some people still recommend on feeding iguanas with insects and other animal protein based food.

You may have seen iguanas eating insects on televisions and magazines but research studies shows that this thing occurs only by accident. Like for example, when an insect is on a piece of plant. An iguana slowly creeps over to eat it. Then leaf and insect are simultaneously consumed by the reptile.

Experts and veterinarians recommend more vegetables to be fed to your pet and lesser animal protein or insects.  This will eventually lead to better physical health.

Albino iguanas also need water, so make sure to provide them with this. Iguanas usually dip their head on the water when drinking, so also make sure to have a tall glass that is full of fresh water. Sometimes they also lick off small water droplets from plants to quench their thirst.

Water should always be available for your iguana and make certain that they are fresh.  Never feed your iguana with left over vegetables because this may cause disorders in its digestive system. It will then lead to sickness or even death.

It is highly recommended to feed your iguana every day and regularly. The ideal time for feeding your iguana is early in the morning usually an hour after it is awake. Succeeding feeding all through out the day can also be done but only in small quantity. Never feed your iguana immense amounts of food before sleeping time.

Feeding your Albino Iguana in the morning gives it time to properly digest food before sleeping. In addition, the morning temperature will give your iguana the right environment to properly digest its food.

The amount of food to be given literally depends on the size and bulkiness of your iguana. The main rule in here is to feed your iguana as long as it wants to. This kind of technique will allow you to note how much your iguana can take over one feeding.

Food for your Albino Iguana should be on a shallow bowl which should be made of ceramic, glass or plastic and should be regularly cleaned. The bowl to be used should be sturdy enough to hold your iguana and should not be tipped easily.

Variety of food is also important to make your iguana feel healthy and at home. Iguanas are known to eat a large variety of fruits and flowers in the wild so it is a good idea to also feed them this way while they are in your captivity.

Aside from proper food your iguana should also have the proper lighting and sunshine. Iguanas usually get calcium from the sun rays to help them properly digest their food.

So if you want your Albino Iguana to stay healthy and have a longer life span feed them with the right amount of food and the right kind of food.
