Here are some more information for Bamboo Japanese:

The banning of samurai swords in the 1870's paved a way to a new level of Japanese stealth fighting styles. The classes of warrior at that time haven't well accepted the ending of a thousand year tradition such that this innocent walking cane was born.
The Japanese warrior class invented a whole new idea of weaponry, which is known to be as the Bamboo Stick Katana or the shikomizue which permits them to freight high caliber blades to collectors who are willful to do their own personalized fitting. Its primary objective was for storage and has grown to a will known stealth katana. This is a preferred weapon of disguise for ninjas and other emissaries.
It is an ingenious sword that features a minimalist motif with respect to its grip and saya design. This conventional decorative sword has a smooth grip with no fancy fittings. This sword has no hand guard and the scabbard is generally made uncomplicated and contains information of the blade.
The JL0011 Bamboo Walking Sword has no serious distinction than the original Bamboo Stick Katana and is artfully crafted. The saya which hides a 27 inch, sharpened 440 stainless steel blade was ornamented to emanate from an authentic Japanese walking sword.
Its simplicity makes it a good collector's item. Though it is not the hardest wearing sword of all time, one must be careful when drawing the blade as there are no fasteners locking in the sword handle.
Bamboo gets fragile and the fitting tends to detach in time. However, this JL011 Bamboo Walking Sword is constructed from hard wood so it is not easily vulnerable to any climate conditions and other impotencies. Since most ninjas have their weapon created for stealth and surprise, using this weapon doesn't guarantee that it will last long as it is dependent on the speed which it is used rather than sturdiness.
You can also observe that the sword has its traditional rippled design of a hamon which is etched to attain a certain aesthetic level. Traditionally, katana swords are edged tempered to produce these ornaments.
It is appealing to own a replica of the real Bamboo Walking Sword. Although the safety is compromised without the hand guard, it is still a good way to collect this type of blades. For some, this weapon has more operational advantages aside from its aesthetic glamour. You can also use the scabbard as a weapon when incidentally surprised by some greedy individuals. You can never find something like this apart from having it acquired on some online stores. This collector sword is something you can be proud of.

Herbicides Against Japanese Knotweed
One of the most effective herbicide active ingredients for Japanese knotweed control is actually called glyphosate.
It is really effective in Japanese knotweed control because it disrupts the biochemical pathways of the plant for making plant proteins that are essential for the invasive weed to live and grow. The herbicide soaks through the Japanese knotweed leaves and is taken into the root system of the plant.
The knotweed forms dense clumps that can grow up to three metres. It has large, ovate green leaves and a stem that is hollow. Japanese knotweed stems are similar in appearance to those of bamboo.
The greater the number of Japanese knotweed green leaves that are showing, the more glyphosate can be absorbed into the Japanese plant, so encouraging Japanese knotweed eradication.
Japanese knotweed control using herbicide can be carried out during the growing season when the plant has some green, leafy material present. The control with herbicide treatments takes effect usually within a few weeks but Japanese knotweed eradication can take a minimum of two sprays of Japanese knotweed in one growing season to complete the complete eradication.
Japanese knotweed control by this method can take up to ten days for the Japanese knotweed plant to begin to die off after the Japanese knotweed control treatment has been applied. It is important to always watch for re-growth of Japanese knotweed though as long as every part of the plant is not dead, it may grow back up.
Another method of Japanese knotweed control is in the removal of the ground contaminated by it. Care should be taken with the roots when Japanese knotweed removal is in progress, more rather than less is the rule with Japanese knotweed removal of roots. One tiny piece of Japanese knotweed can actually produce more Japanese knotweed in a very short time.
Even with care during the Japanese knotweed removal, it is advised that a Japanese knotweed spraying programme be embarked upon to fully ensure the Japanese knotweed eradication. The control of the weed is impossible to prevent if fragments of Japanese knotweed are not sufficiently eradicated from the contaminated ground.
It is best to leave the eradication to a competent manager perfectly trained to deal with those situations. And a perfect eradication would need a follow on treatment to make sure that the invasive plant does not grow back and that all the roots have been removed from the ground.

can japanese timber bamboo be grown in upstate NY?
Most can't because they are not hardy enough. You might try one of the hardier types - http://www.bamboogarden.com/Timber%20Bamboos.htm
