I have an old white dresser, but the paint is chipped in some places and coming off in others, I want to repaint it white. Do I need to sand all of the paint off? or what should I do?
You don't have to sand off all the paint. Where there are chips in the paint sand the areas smooth so that the chips are not visible when you repaint and can't be felt when you run your hand along the area. Any paint that is coming off needs to be scraped off and smoothed, you then should lightly sand the existing white paint that remains so that the new paint can adhere to the surface. The smoother the base, the better the paint job will look when finished. Your will likely need 2 coats of paint for a durable finish and I recommend that you use a paint with some sheen (semi gloss or gloss) which is more durable and easier to keep clean.
